There is no fear in love.

In our recent Unhurried community Mentoring Circle, we had a powerful conversation about what each of us are hoping to release in the new year—a feeling, an emotion, a habit that no longer serves us. As we shared, a theme began to emerge: everything we were looking to release was rooted in fear.

Fear of not being enough. Fear of disappointing others. Fear of slowing down and somehow falling behind. Fear of what happens when we surrender control. Fear of disconnecting from our children.

But as we’re reminded in 1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.” Fear is not our natural state—love is. Fear constricts; love expands. Fear depletes; love restores. Fear whispers of scarcity; love reminds us of abundance.

Fear May Be Present, But It Doesn’t Get to Drive

One of our dear members shared a simple yet profound idea: Fear will likely always be present, but we don’t have to let it sit in the driver’s seat. Instead, we can imagine placing fear in a clear box. It’s still there—we see it, acknowledge it—but it has no control over our choices, our energy, or our peace. This morning, I tried it for myself - and I can honestly share that it brought me a sense of deep calm in my body.

This year, instead of fighting fear, what if we simply put it in its place?

A Breath Prayer to Anchor Us in Love

As we step into this new season, I invite you to practice a simple breath prayer whenever fear creeps in:

🌿 Inhale: I receive perfect LOVE. 🌿 Exhale: I release FEAR.

With each breath, you return to the truth: You are held. You are seen. You are deeply loved by a God who never leads with fear—only with grace.

A Gentle Invitation

What is one fear you are ready to tuck away, allowing love to take its place?

As we walk into this new year together, may we choose to be led by love, to move at the pace of peace, and to trust that we are safe to let go.

With love and deep exhale, Julie
