The Beauty of Unplugging (and Letting Your Soul Catch Up)
We just returned from our honeymoon - twelve breathtaking days exploring the Amalfi Coast and Dubrovnik - and I can’t stop thinking about how healing it was to simply… unplug and be in the moment.
No deadlines. No alarms. No to-do lists. No constant pressure to "perform" or multitask.
Just beauty. Lingered-over meals. Crystalline water and cobblestone streets. Conversations held with intention. A slower pace that allowed my nervous system to breathe even deeper.
And in that slowness, I was reminded: The pace of the world will deplete and exhaust you. The pace of God will restore you.
There’s something profoundly sacred about stepping away from the noise of daily life and immersing yourself in the present moment - especially in a place where God’s creation speaks so boldly through beautiful landscapes, lemon trees and scrumptious food.
But here’s what surprised me most: it wasn’t just “a nice break.” It felt like my whole body exhaled. My mind softened. My heart opened. My soul felt nourished in a way I hadn’t even realized I needed.
The gift of slowing and savoring is that it brings us back to now.
Whether it was a bite of the best eggplant parmesan I've ever tasted, hearing church bells echo through a quiet alley in Dubrovnik, or simply sitting still as the sun melted into the sea - these weren’t just beautiful travel moments.
They felt holy. Like little invitations from God to be here now. To slow down. To look up. To receive the moment fully.
Not as something to capture or check off… but as something to savor.
Because when we pause to really take in what’s in front of us, we regulate more than just our nervous systems - we reconnect with God, with our senses, and with what matters most.
You don’t have to travel across the world to experience peace. Sometimes, you just need to unplug long enough to feel what’s already here.
